Hello, I’m Stephanie!
I am an award winning, internationally published wedding and elopement floral designer based right here in Central Florida.
First, let’s talk about my name change - I was previously known as Stephanie Yardman Floral Design. My new name selection pays homage to my very missed, beloved old-man cat, Onyx, who we had to unfortunately put down in 2020. 🖤
People often ask me how I got started in the floral industry, and the truth is, I was kind of forced into it …kicking and screaming. (As all eighth graders behave, right?) My very first day job shadowing was very poorly planned and happened to be February 13th - that’s right, the day before the florist’s Super Bowl. Most people would have been completely scared off by the chaos, but I had fallen in love with the not-so-pretty side of the ultimate floral holiday. I was sucked in like a moth to a flame; and the then owners took a liking to me because they believed I had exhibited raw talent which led to officially having a job at their flower shop once I started high school. It turns out, my eighth grade teacher knew what she was doing when she decided to place me in that flower shop - it’s now been 20 years and I am still just completely obsessed with this industry; I really can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
I spent eleven years in a few different full service “brick and mortar” flower shops doing everything under the sun, which has absolutely contributed to making me the well rounded designer that I am today. Eventually, I left and decided to focus solely on weddings and event work because that’s where my passion was - and to be honest, it was time that I invested in my own floral dreams.
A little about me personally: I am originally from the American Southwest - born and raised in New Mexico. If you haven’t heard of it - its the Land of Enchantment because of its diverse and beautiful landscapes, and visitors generally love its rich culture! Although I do miss experiencing the different seasons, and I certainly miss the food, being in Florida has been a welcomed new adventure and I cannot wait to see what else Florida has in store for us.
I am basically a coffee addict - I survive off of coffee the majority of the time. I grew up with coffee breaks being an important part of daily life - my grandparents believed that every day at 3pm we would stop and have a coffee break, regardless if we were home or not! (My grandma would even pack a thermos of coffee for coffee break when we went on fishing trips.) My grandpa called coffee ‘kickapoojoyjuice’ - although I like to think of it as my little cup of happy. Ha. In my free time you can usually find me reading, binging true crime documentaries, watching Disney movies or just doing home projects with my husband.
We have 3 sweet furbabies - two cats, Meeka and Furgus, and a Corgi, Beanard. Meeka is always super ‘helpful’ and supervises us while doing home projects or when I’m designing. We lovingly - and jokingly - call her our Quality Control.
